"Ah, but a man’s reach should exceed his grasp,Or what’s a heaven for?" - Robert Browning
"Maybe it´s me who´s gone crazy.But I can´t understand why..."
It's for nothing. It's for cashing in all that nothing you've saved up, hoping for the rainy day with something will quit happening. When it's time, you take all that nothing out of your pockets and coffee cans and spare closets and you put it all in a pile and you just let yourself fall down into it and sink into the beauty of things not happening to you for a long, long time. It's retirement from the something farm. It's when you get to use up your IRA of that beautiful boredom that can only come from the hectic race from birth to death. It is that finish line signalling that, when you cross it, you know you never have to See That Face or Hear That Ringtone or Fill Out That Report or Be Cut Off By That Bastard or Argue The Relative Merits of Crap ever again.
I think forever exists as an impossible ideal. The tyranny of forever hangs heavy over such things as marriages and promises to be "best friends forever." When, really, all it means is that when life has rolled over you and crushed out your breath it will keep rolling dumbly on, having forgotten you, until forever runs out.
